Founded in 1884 The Guild currently has a membership of over 350 members around the country. For me it is an opportunity to meet art workers of many different disciplines.
This society also has a long history starting in 1887 as the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society. For me it is also tied up with my own family history. My Uncle, a furniture maker, is a Fellow and his father, my grandfather also belonged as a rug weaver. I am delighted to have recently been awarded Fellowship of the Society myself.
This is a great resource for meeting other weavers, and textile enthusiasts of all levels and experiences. It's primary function is educational and connects with other Guilds around the country through the Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers.
My studio is with Cockpit Arts in South East London. It is a lovely light studio in a building with makers of many different disciplines.
